Shipping policy
Collection in person only
We do not offer postage, delivery or shipping of any kind. Every book is sold for collection in person, in London.
For books of this age and value we believe a face-to-face handover is the right way to sell. You can examine the binding, the paper and any inscriptions at leisure, and satisfy yourself fully, before the handover is completed. We will allow as much time as you need to do so.
How collection works
1. You write to us about a book, and we correspond. Questions of any level of detail are welcome beforehand, and we are glad to send further photographs of any leaf.
2. If you decide to buy, we send you a written confirmation by email setting out the book, the agreed price, and the arrangements for payment and collection. The contract is formed at that point, not before.
3. You pay the agreed price. We do not take card payments and we never ask for card details.
4. Once payment has cleared, we contact you to arrange collection at a time and place convenient to us both.
5. At the handover you may inspect the book for as long as you wish before completing the collection. If it is not what you expected, say so then and we will refund you there and then.
6. Title and risk of loss pass to you at the point of collection.
Charges
There is no delivery charge, because there is no delivery. The price shown is the price of the book, in pounds sterling, with no VAT added, as we are not registered for VAT.
If you cannot collect in person
Please write to us before we send a written confirmation. In exceptional cases we may agree to despatch a book by separate written arrangement. It is not a service we offer as standard, it is never assumed, and it would change the terms on which the book is sold. If it is ever agreed, we will set out those terms in writing at the time.
Buyers outside the United Kingdom
Our prices are in pounds sterling and our market is the United Kingdom, but our books are offered to collectors and institutions anywhere. The constraint is where collection happens, not who may buy. If you are abroad and interested in a book, please write: collection can be made by an agent, a shipper or a colleague acting on your behalf, by prior arrangement. Any export licence, customs formality or duty arising after collection is a matter for you, and we will supply whatever documentation of age and provenance you need.
